Manchester City Beat League Leaders Chelsea - English Premier League Review Saturday 5 December

Saturday's games in the English Premier League saw the league come back to life as the gap at the top was reduced to 2 points as reported on BBC Sport Football.

Chelsea travelled to Manchester City and lost their first league game for a while going down to a 2-1 defeat. Chelsea had taken the lead with an early goal in the first half with City fighting back to score a goal which took the sides into the half time break level at 1-1. City started

the second half well with a early Carlos Tevez goal putting them into a 2-1 lead. Chelsea gave it their all after this in search of an equalizer but the City goalkeeper pulled off some great saves to deny them this. With time running out Chelsea were given a great chance to tie the game when they were awarded a penalty but Frank Lampard's spot kick was saved and City played out the remainder of the game to earn a deserved 3 points. This will be a major confidence booster for City and moved them up to sixth place in the table. Chelsea remain top of the table although their lead was cut to 2 points.

Second placed Manchester United travelled to play West Ham and came away with a comfortable 4-0 victory to move closer to the league leaders. West Ham has had a good run of games recently and had started picking up points but they were no match for United. The first half looked to have ended goalless until an injury time strike from Paul Scholes broke the deadlock and gave United a 1-0 half time lead. They built on this lead in the second half and scored three more goals to end up winning the game convincingly 4-0. This is the second week in a row where United have scored four goals away from home and they are playing well at the moment. Moving closer to Chelsea at the top of the table will also be a boost for them.

After two big defeats in the last week, Arsenal got their season back on track with a 2-0 home win over Stoke City. After a difficult week, this was a comfortable victory for Arsenal with a goal in either half being good enough to seal the win. It was an improved performance from Arsenal and the win moved them up to third in the table, although Tottenham could go back above them if they win their game on Sunday.
